Do teenagers ever know what's happening with their hormones? One day, it seems as though girls and boys think the opposite sex has cooties. The next year, those same teens are chasing each other all over Minnesota with sexual aggression. However, because of maturity differences between genders, female teens are often attracted to men who are older than they are.
Few men are interested in turning down the advances of an attractive young woman. However, failing to do so could lead to criminal charges. Because of a situation like that, one man is facing an assortment of sex crime charges.
The man was a teacher at the 17-year-old's high school, and the two started sending text messages to each during the day. After sending numerous texts, the pair decided to meet outside of school. Throughout January, the couple met all over the county, and they had several sexual interactions.
During their relationship, the teacher allegedly sent obscene photos of himself to the student. At this point, it is unclear whether she also sent him photos. However, the teacher is facing two counts of dealing in child pornography, and news stories included no other details of those charges.
Although the relationship between the student and teacher may have been consensual, the teacher could face a lifetime of ramifications if he is convicted of all the charges. He was charged with three counts of sexual abuse by a person of trust, four counts of unlawful sexual contact, two counts of dealing in child pornography and two counts of obscenity -- a hefty pile of charges, considering their relationship lasted less than a month.
In some situations, prosecutors may try to assign several criminal charges for each sexual encounter that took place. If that is the case here, an experienced criminal defense attorney may be able to help the teacher protect his rights throughout the process.
